Media Relations Summit

The Media Relations Summit (#MRS09) has been interesting. Not only did I get to see former colleagues and rekindle some old memories from the good ol’ TEKgroup days but I have also met some very lovely contacts that I hope to have a lasting relationship with. Since I have been laid off and looking for a job, this year’s Bulldog Media Relations conference has been the best networking I have done in three months. In the past a networking lunch or tweet up has been great but nothing really promising has come from it!

I started off with a seminar of journalists in the men’s sector: Playboy, Men’s Journal, and Details magazines. All were very helpful in explaining how they would like to be pitched. Whether it be snail mail, email, or twitter pitches, all the journalist’s at the conference that I have sat in with seem to have a consensus that “common sense and good manners” (from Alex Fedorak from the Underdog seminar) is all it takes to get noticed. As well as an effective, clear, and TO THE POINT pitch according to a few others that I heard from in various seminars. I find it overwhelmingly pleasing that I have always tried to stick to this method of PR without even being told to do so. To me it is just common courtesy to not annoy another professional. I understand journalists are busy as well as I am.

Overall the past two days of networking, and thanks to my former boss Ibrey Woodall, I have met some great contacts who might just help me towards the direction of a few opportunities in this career I am trying to build!

Iwearyourshirt.com recent pitch

A recent pitch I sent to a national journalist looking for a "bootstrapping" business! Jason Sadler's creative approach to marketing and himself should be a lesson to all of us to be creative and think outside the box!!!! See below and let me know your thoughts!

In this up and down economy Jason Sadler, founder of this ever so creative marketing idea, outsources his daily wardrobe (namely shirts) to corporate America. This creative shirt wearing guy loves out of the box marketing/advertising and thought this would be a fun alternative for people who currently use banner ads or don't advertise at all.

Days are sold at “face value” so January 1 is $1, January 2 is $2, January 3 is $3 all the way to December 31 which is $365. He also offers monthly sponsorships. With 38 days left to sell, by December 31 he will earn $66,795 for the days alone, plus another $18,000 in monthly sponsors. Total = $84,795. As far as his start up fees for this "bootstrapping business", the I Wear Your Shirt website was created by his company, so all the design/hosting/programming was free! Sadler only paid for a UPS Box and an extra 200 hangers for all his shirts. He purchased a HARO ad which was placed February 9th which created a ton of buzz and sold 40+ days. He has another spot coming up May 24 which he hopes will promote the 2010 plans or close out the remaining days in 2009.

He has worn a different shirt for a numerous amount of companies since Jan 1 and will continue to wear a different shirt for the remainder of days through 2009. He uses a handful of the free social media tools to promote a person's company/product/blog/etc and has fun doing it. He also airs live during a daily Ustream show at 3pm EST and on YouTube that discusses the company of the day and contests that are going on to win free stuff from the companies.

The Iwearyourshirt.com phenomenon has swept across the USA with the small and large companies looking for different angle and has gained popularity with articles written about this creative marketing plan in the NYTimes, LATimes, MSN Money, The Guardian and the Wall Street Journal.

Should you have any questions or need more info feel free to contact myself or Jason Sadler at iwearyourshirt@gmail.com. He is available for interviews/emails. Check out his live show every day at 3pm on www.Ustream.com/iwearyourshirt or www.iwearyourshirt.com.

And now it’s time to say goodbye…..

Looking forward to going down to FL this weekend for the Delray Beach ITC. Since I was laid-off from my job today (well since it is after 12am it was yesterday) I am going to reconnect with some former freelance clients that I worked with a while back and see if I can freelance my PR expertise.

I would love to explore my opportunities in other fields other then PR and events. Maybe go into broadcast or production, perhaps casting or working on a TV Show set or get back into film festival mode. I helped gain national and regional coverage for clients and my pr, media and of course social media skills over the years have developed as a young professional but I think my abilities to coordinate and facilitate event logistics effectively has been in my nature since I was a kid. I did have my first successful garage sale at 11 and my babysitting club at 13 was quite the club on the block.

My resume is updated and ready for your viewing pleasure. I am willing to travel, work in any setting and want to try it all while I am still young… PR, Media Relations, Events, TV, Publicist, Producer, etc.

Have you recently lost your job? Tell me about it. How are you dealing? I find my contacts on twitter are helping me out a lot and it has been less than 24 hours. Thank god for those social media skills! I need advice and guidance on this whole unemployment situation! Email me or leave comments. I’m here all day!

MC hammer and my overall recap of the Shorty's

Yes @MCHammer was there at the Shorrty's! I wonder how much he got paid to come or if he just wanted to come?? But all in all he was pretty cool and no, there was no Running-Man solo performance! The awards as @JamesBedell stated in the "The Scene at the Shorty Twitter Awards: Chatter" article in the NY Times, “Twitter is about community, not individual greatness. The awards were a little weird”. I had fun becuase I was there with some good people who I talk to every day. We all made fun of the fact that we were actually there. The spaceman (@matman) was interesting and I mentioned it once or twice that I felt like I was at ComicCon or a Starwars Convention (which I have never been to either of because of obvious reasons) with the little twitter buzzes all around me discussing which doornknob handle was right for a project, or what is the velocity of the Earth. The awards in itself were yes comical but a little unorganized at the begining, and def "weird".

I loved the statement from the feed that said "Just think, in 5 years this’ll be the Honda/Snapple Shorty Awards and the video will be obscured by a giant Chili’s banner". We also got a nice live video feed from Twitter co-founder, Biz Stone. He gave us all a little shout out and the crowd laughed.

I would rather create my own TweetUp with my own little tight knit click of twitterers (@GinaLaGuardia, @JamesBedell, and @TheWriteWoman) instead of watching other twitterers (that I don't follow) get awards for how much time they dedicate to twitter during the day/night and how many followers they have, who voted for them! Sorry @Gregory... good job on the event though, it ultimately was a success, had a great turn out and exceptional for networking and mingling with fellow twits!!!

Shaq for about 1 tweet!

Was his speech via video 140 characters? I think it was! The big ticket items last night was Host: CNN anchor Rick Sanchez @ricksanchezcnn Special appearances: Shaquille O'Neal @THE_REAL_SHAQ (via video) & MC Hammer @MCHammer

Lighting was terrible!

Thanks to the BB camera! I had a flash but it was not so good in this lighting! Well @JamesBedell said it was better in this corner... but what does he know about lighting anyway! :)

Live feed at Shortys

My name was just up on the big sceen live feed. @GinaLaguardia, @TheWriteWoman, and @JamesBedell and I (@aadler1204) were all sending our 140 character tweets to #shorty to get up on the big screen... a few of them didn't make it but some of them did. And when they did we all cheered! Kind of a thrill but yet still kinda brought our "coolness points" down quite a bit. Hey at least we were not dressed up as spacemen about to leave on a mission to mars or anything! Oh man I wish I took a picture of that!
AA

Start time at the Shorty's is 7:30pm

They are not letting people in until 7:30 so I am walking around Brooklyn and its awesome! I remember this scene from law and order, sex and the city, how to loose a guy in 10 days and numerous othe NY based films and shows! They didn't let us in until about 8pm... for some reason there was one line and then when we got to the door... the "bouncer-esque" guy told us we were not VIP's so we had to wait on another line. I think it was a little un-necessary to do this and I think a little unorganized at this point!
AA

Inside it was unique. Metal bridges lead you to the stage above a black moat. The upstairs looked fun but that was only for the "VIP's" which I was not!

AA

On my way from the F

I find it is quite difficult to walk in 4 inch heel boots on cobbelstone! Clearly no one told me that Brooklyn consisted of all cobblestone! It is pretty though! The area is nice and it looks like it once was industrial and now they have added restaurants and an art space (Galapagos)!

The other side of the Brooklyn bridge

Ill be posting updates from The Shorty Awards at the Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn! Stay tuned...

Alzheimer's Association Junior Committee Annual Gala!

Hi All!

Soooo..... My sister Janine and I recently joined the Alzheimers Association NYC Junior Committee because my Nanny (mom's mom) has developed the disease~! its onset right now but could potentially get worse! So of course being in this group helps me to help my Nanny and the disease by being apart of an initiative that... well raises money for research of the disease to get closer to finding a cure!

Would you guys like to receive a save-the-date for the Alzheimer’s Association Junior Committee's annual gala? I am helping to plan it and do publicity for it! It’s all for young professionals and its going to probably be at a hot location in NYC probably in May! It was at Tenjune last year and from the pics it looked like an awesome party! I would just need your physical addresses and emails! You’ll get a save the date in a few weeks and then an actual invitation a few weeks before the event! No spam or junk mail -I swear! Also, if you know anyone else in the city or LI who are like 40 and under (this is young professionals) who would like to be invited, I need their names addresses and emails. Last year about 300 people came and I think they raised almost $70,000 sooooo... of course this year we are aiming to go above and beyond that (especially since I am on the planning committee now!)!

I could use your help and it would mean a lot to me if you guys got some of your boyfriends/girlfriends/husbands/wives/friends/family who are all young people who would want to go to a party at an awesome club (still in the process but it might be at Tenjune again)! I just need the names and addresses from you guys...

If anyone who works for a company or owns a company and wants to donate products for the silent auction or be a sponsor of the event let me know and I can send you a professional letter with the details and sponsorship info. This is a 501 (c)(3) not for profit org and tax deductible contributions are always fun for everyone!

Love you all and thanks if you can help me out with the guest list creation process!

Aimerssssssssssssss
